boxscore

In a very close, well played game, the Brewers got just enough breaks to slip past the Cardinals. The Cards jumped out to a very quick lead getting back to back doubles by Rick Dow and their starting pitcher Jon Paul, and then an RBI single by O'Leary for a 2-0 lead. After Paul cruised through the bottome of the first, Brewer starter Jason Krottner easily got through the second. In the bottom of the second, Mark Keenan led off with a home run to get the Brewers on the board. Paul re-grouped though and got next 3 batters to get out of the second.

The Cards then scored another run in the 3rd when Paul got an RBI single to make it 3-1, but Krottner was able to get out of the inning giving up just one and stranding two runners. In the bottom of the inning, the Brewers tied the game up with 2 runs without getting the ball out of the infield, with a walk, sac bunt, infield single, fielder's choice, stolen base, and 2 Cardinals errors. Krottner easily got through the 4th, and then the Brewers took advantage of some wild pitching by Paul who got the hook after walking the bases loaded with one out. In came Dave Barnes, and Mike Gingerich greeted him with an RBI line drive single to left field. Then after a Jon Zywicki ground out scored a second run, Matt Beelen hit a 2-out RBI single to left to make the score 6-3.

In the 5th and 6th, the Cards relievers shut down the Brewers, while Krottner continued to pitch well and not giving up any more runs until the 7th with the help of a couple great plays at third base by Gingerich. In the 7th, Paul got his 3rd RBI of the game with a double to the right-center gap, but that was all they could muster as Krottner finished the complete game winning 6-4.
