Volants at Brewers

boxscore

The Hull Volants looked to continue their great start against the suddenly slumping bats of the Brewers. The Brewers bats actually looked to be alive in the 1st inning, when Jon Zywicki led off with a double and Matt Beelen hit him in with an RBI line drive single, unfortunately they could only get that one run despite getting another hit in the inning by Dave Rivers. From this point on a pitching duel ensued between Mike Gazo and the Volant's Martin Roy.

After 3 scoreless innings for Gazo, the Volants tied the game with an un-earned run in the 4th, but Gazo got out of the inning by picking off a Volants runner off of first base. Meanwhile, Roy continued to silence the Brewer bats by scattering 5 hits through the last 6 innings.

The decisive inning was the 5th. After Perron led the inning off with a single, Boisvert attempted to sacrifice him over. The Volants ended up with runners on first and second when the Brewers tried unsuccessfully to get the out at second base on the sac bunt. Then after a fielder's choice by Istead, Major knocked in the go-ahead run with a single up the middle. Then Boivin executed a perfect squeeze bunt which the Brewers couldn't turn into an out. The Volants then singled and struck out to load the bases with 2 outs. Leveille was able to score all 3 runs with a double to left field just out of the reach of Jason Krottner to make the score 6-1 and deflate the Brewers.

Serge Bealieu came in to pitch the last 2 innings for the Brewers and struck out 5 of 6 batters, but the Brewers bats remained quiet to the end as Roy finished the complete game.

Player of the Game: Leveille...batting: 2/3, 4 RBI, 1 2B...game tying hit and then broke game open with 3 RBI double.
