Herritage

boxscore

The Brewers and Hitmen played a double header on this night, both games were crucial to the Brewers playoff quest. After the umpires didn't show up for the first game, the game started 45 minutes late at 7pm. With fast play by both teams, both games got played in 3 and a half hours, with both games going the full 7 innings.

Mike Gazo struck out 2 Hitmen batters in the 1st inning as a sign of things to come as it was the 1st of four 3 batter innings for the Hitmen. In the bottom of the frame, Jon Zywicki led off with a single off of Hitmen starter Gloyn, who was pitching with a broken left arm, and did his glove work ala Jim Abbott, very impressive indeed. Matt Beelen, then knocked in Zywicki with an RBI double to right and then scored as well on a Jason Krottner RBI double giving the Brewers an early 2-0 lead.

The Hitmen looked to strike back in the 2nd, as Labrasseur led off with a single and then ended up scoring on a Brewer error. The Brewers were able to get out of the inning when Thompson attempted to score from 3rd on a groundout to 3rd as Keith Blouin threw the batter out at first then Joe Beelen threw Thompson out at home.  The Brewers took the momentum with that play as they loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the 2nd with a Hitmen error and singles by Hank Beelen and Mike Gazo. Zywicki hit a sacrifice fly to score 1 run, and then Matt Beelen hit his 2nd double of the game for 2 more RBI. Then with the help of a balk and Hitmen error the Brewers scored 2 more runs to make the score 7-1.

From here on both pitchers cruised, as Gazo retired at one point 8 straight batters and gave up one run in the 6th on a wild pitch, finishing the game with 8 strike outs and only giving up 4 hits. Gloyn also retired 8 straight and gave up 2 more un-earned runs as the final score was 9-2.

Player of the game : Mike Gazo, pitching: 7 IP, 4 hits, 9 K's, 1 earned run. batting: 1/2, 1 run, 1 walk.
