Game #2

boxscore

In game 2 of the double header the Brewers struck quickly as Jon Zywicki led off with a triple off of Hitmen starter Crowder. Matt Beelen promptly hit an RBI ground-out to score the first run. In the bottom of the 1st, the Hitmen hit each of Matt Beelen's first 2 pitches for singles by Oattes and LeBrasseur. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, the Hitmen attempted an ill-advised safety squeeze which Matt Beelen fielded and then faked a throw to first catching the runner on 3rd off guard and getting him out at home. The Hitmen then stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Brewers retained the lead.

In the 2nd inning, the Brewers broke the game open when Keith Blouin singled, stole second, advance to 3rd on a wild pitch and then scored on Joe Beelen's RBI single. A walk and error later, the bases were loaded with 2 outs. Matt Beelen walked to force in a run, and then Jason Krottner cleared the bases with a triple down the left field line to make the score 6-0. After Matt Beelen cruised through the 2nd, the Brewers scored 4 more runs in the 3rd, with a mixture of 3 walks, 2 hits, and 2 errors, highlited by Mike Gazo's RBI single.

With the score 10-0, Dave Rivers came in for the Brewers and pitched the last 5 innings giving up just 2 earned runs when Joynt hit an RBI double and Oattes hit an RBI single in the 5th. Meanwhile, the Brewers only scored once more when Krottner hit a sacrifice fly in the 5th. The game ended 11-2 in the Brewers favour.

Player of the Game : Keith Blouin, batting: 4/4, 2 runs, 2 SB.
