Kinsmen

Game #3

boxscore

With the series tied at 1, Kanata's bats came alive in a big way as it simply wasn't the Panthers night as Kanata cranked out 16 hits. Dan Rollin started for Kanata, and in the top of the first he was able to make a nice bare handed catch just behind the mound which started a double play as the Panthers runner was already at 2nd base when he caught it. Kanata juggled it's batting order and it paid off immediately off of Panthers starter Max Stencer. Mike Watters and Hugh Kellam led off the bottom of the 1st with back to back triples to center field followed by a double to left-center by Shawn Hopewell in what proved to be a sign of things to come. After Phil Muller singled in Shawn Hopewell, Kanata led 3-0.

The Panthers looked to strike back quickly as Steve Tsonos and Marc Charbonneau hit back to back singles to lead off the second inning. But after Tsonos got thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch in a home plate collision with Rollin, Rollin got up and got out of the innings without any damage. Kanata's bats continued to roll in the second as they tacked on 2 more runs via 3 hits, a walk and a sac fly by Shawn Hopewell.

In the 3rd, down 5-0, the Panthers needed a spark, Dan Alther provided one when he hit a 2 out, 2 run homer over the left center field fence to make the score 5-2. Unfortunately Kanata continued to get to Stencer as Mark Majkowski led off the third with a double ending Stencer's night on the mound. Steve Smith relieved and after a sac bunt, a HBP, 2 singles and a sac fly, Kanata was ahead 8-2.

Kanata then added 4 more runs in the 4th inning putting together another 4 hits and making the score 12-2 through 4 innings. The Panthers attempted to make a game of it by scoring 2 runs in the 5th and 6th innings, but Kanata scored 2 more in the 6th as well to make the outcome obvious. The score ended at 14-6, and Kanata now has the series lead at 2-1.
