In the first ever meeting between these two teams, both were looking for their first wins of 2001. On this cold night, Mike Gazo took over right from the start. After pitching a scoreless first inning, he belted a 2 run homer shortly after Jon Zywicki hit a lead off homer. The Hitmen starter Jaeme Gloyn, didn't get much help on this night only giving up 2 earned runs in his four innings of work. He didn't give up a hit after the first inning either, but still left down 6-0.

Gazo meanwhile worked a gem, giving up just 4 hits and only one runner to pass first base and striking out 4. The Brewers tacked on 4 more runs in the 5th and 6th off Hitmen relief pitcher Magnus, although only 2 were earned, highlighted by a 2 run triple by Mark Keenan.
