McCarthy

boxscore

On this night at the McCarthy gravel pit errrr "baseball" field, the Brewers and Panthers hooked up in one of their all-time ugliest games between these two rivals. For the second straight game, the Brewers jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning as they plated 6 runs in the top of the first via RBI singles from Geoff Magnus, Shawn Painter, Matt Beelen, and Chris Ivany. The Brewers starting pitcher Sean Lecuyer didn`t do much better in his first start since he was 12. After walking the first 3 batters and an RBI single by Steve "Meat" Tsonos, the score stood at 6-3 after 1 looonnnngggg inning.

Then suddenly a pitching duel erupted as Panthers starter Kevin Macadam shook off his first inning troubles and had little trouble in the 2nd and 3rd. Lecuyer also went into cruise control as he sailed through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Marc Charbonneau relieved Macadam in the 4th after a lead off single and promptly struck out the side. After 4 complete the score remained 6-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers began to chip away as they scored 2 runs, with a bases loaded walk by Tsonos, and a sacrifice fly by Dan Altherr. In the top of the 6th, the Brewers looked to get some insurance runs as they scored 3 more runs highlighted by a 2-RBI single by Magnus to make the score 9-5.

At this point the roof fell in on the Brewers. After a walk by Al Kohli, single by Steve Smith, and walk by Jeff Dawson, Shawn Painter relieved Lecuyer and the Panthers promptly got an RBI single by Darryl Macadam and then Altherr hit a game tying RBI double into the shrubbery in left field. Then Jon Carbonette stepped up and hit a 2-out RBI single to give the Panthers a 10-9 lead. The Brewers couldn`t muster much offence in the 7th and the game ended 10-9.

Player of the Game : Dan Altherr...1/3, 2 RBI, double, sac fly.
