boxscore

In this playoff atmosphere game, the Brewers looked to stay in the hunt for first place and the Red Sox looked to stay ahead of the Braves in the Wallace Division. Red Sox starter Chris Schmidt easily got through the first 2 innings giving up only 1 hit. The Red Sox then quickly hit to hard singles off of Brewers starter Mike Gingerich to lead off the first, but then squandered the opportunity without scoring. In the second inning, with the help of 2 Brewer errors, the Red Sox got on the board as Steve Monpremier successfully stole home while Jaime Gloyn was caught in a run-down.

The Brewers then finally put some hits together all with 2 outs in the 3rd. Matt Beelen hit an RBI single to score Hank Beelen and then Matt Beelen scored on a wild pitch. Schmidt battled out of the inning though by stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd.

The next scoring was done in the bottom of the 4th as the teams continued to go back and forth. After an error, 2 walks and 2 un-earned runs, Roch Seguin came up to bat with 2 outs and a runner on third. Seguin came through with an RBI single to put the Red Sox up 4-2 and signalling the end of Gingerich`s night on the mound as Chris Ivany came in to get out of the inning.

In the 5th inning, with the Brewers lifeless, Geoff Magnus got them excited again by hitting a 2-run homer to left-center field to tie the game. From this moment it was the Chris "punk" Ivany show as he struck out 8 batters over his 3.33 innings of work and stranded runners on third base in each of the 5th,6th and 7th innings.

In the 6th, the Brewers took the lead for good as Dave Rivers hit a clutch RBI double to score Joe Beelen from first base. Then in the top of the 7th, the Brewers got a little insurance as Frank Macera hit a sac fly to score Matt Beelen and finish the scoring at 6-4 for the Brewers.

Player of the Game : Chris Ivany....3.33 IP, 2 hits, 8 K`s.
