Faulkner

boxscore

These two long time rivals squared up on a very nice May night to open the 2004 season.  The Brewers jumped out on top right from the start as Keith Blouin doubled to lead off the game, and then 2 batters later Geoff Magnus hit a 3-run homer to left field to quickly make the score 3-0.  Then Jason Krottner doubled,  Sean Lecuyer and Chris Ivany singled, eventually leading to 2 more Brewer runs to finish the inning up 5-0.  From this point on Braves starter Darren Keating settled down and gave up just 3 more runs over the next 4 innings with the lone Brewer highlight being a home run by Sean Lecuyer around the left field foul pole in the third.

As for the Braves, they rallied in the bottom of the third inning capitalizing on a couple Brewer errors, 2 walks and singles by Chris Jelley and Steve Gilroy.  After 3 complete, the score stood at 7-2.  First year Brewer Adam Oattes then came in and pitched the last 4 innings giving up just 1 run via a Randy Stockdale sac fly to left field.  Oattes retired the final 8 batters and Steve Gilroy pitched 2 scoreless innings for the Braves with the game ending 8-3.

Player of the Game : Geoff Magnus, 3/4, 3 RBI, HR, 2B.
