Panthers at Brewers
Sportsplex

boxscore

This game featured definitely one of the weirdest innings of baseball ever played between these 2 long time rivals.  On a surprisingly humid evening at the Sportsplex, the Panthers jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the 1st courtesy of a solo home run by Keith Bray off of Brewers starter Geoff Magnus.  Then in the 2nd inning the Panthers really got going by scoring 3 more thanks to a 2 out, 2 RBI single by Steve Smith and then a 2 out, RBI single from Nathan Tennant to make the score 4-0.  Meanwhile, Panthers rookie starter, Joel Richard, cruised through the first 2 innings with no damage.  In the bottom of the 3rd though, the wheels fell off for Richard in true "Nuke LaLoosh" style (Bull Durham).  After an RBI double by Magnus got the Brewers on the board, Richard proceeded to walk 6 of the next 7 batters and left the game suddenly down 6-4.  Then reliever Ryan McLaughlin came in and proceeded to hit the first batter he faced for another run and then Magnus ended the scoring in style with a grand slam to left field to make the score 11-4 after a longgg 3rd inning.  From there, the pitchers took over for both teams as the Brewers would not score again off of Panther relievers Smith and Brian Engler.  Brewers reliever Chris Ivany picked up the win by pitching 4 scoreless innings, giving up just 1 hit and getting 3 up 3 down innings in all 4 innings he pitched.
