While Cory Bond is usually a one
trick pony (pitching) in the NCBL, this year it was being a quadruple threat
that carried him to an MVP nomination.
Bond finished with the SweatSox batting title (.300), an NCBL leading
0.00ERA, a near-perfect fielding percentage, all while playing with a broken
back, chipped tooth, and constant headaches from managing this merry band of
misfits. Our great lefty played every
position but catcher, batted everywhere but leadoff, pitched when we needed
to break a 14 game losing streak (vs Cornwall), and of course played in all
29 SweatSox games this year. |

Rudy
was fantastic for the Mudd this year. Numerous clutch hits and key defensive
plays were Rudy's mantra throughout the entire season. In fact, he was in such a zone at the plate
that you could see opposing pitchers sweat when he stepped into the batters
box. His offensive outputs carried the Mudd to the victories that we did have
in the regular season that allowed us to even get into the playoffs. Rudy is
the MVP of our team, and should be the MVP of the league. His numbers speak
for themselves: # 1 in batting average, # 1 in hits, # 1 in Slugging
percentage, # 2 in OPS, # 2 in Home runs, and # 2 in RBI's. Anyone, would
have a hard time arguing against those types of numbers. |

The Braves went out and got
younger...no really...by adding a guy in his 20's we may have brought our
average age below 40!! Hands down our MVP, from the lead off spot all year,
as he led the team in plate appearances 87, runs19, hits 21, walks 17 and stolen
bases 17..and not to mention, stellar defensively!! |

He showed consistency all year

There weren’t many bright spots
on the worst offense in the history of baseball, but Martin Trepanier was an
exception. Trep finished with an
impressive .348 average, a .444 on base, and a .478 slugging, even leading
the team in extra base hits despite a leg injury that kept him off the field
for a part of the season. |

Rudy
destroyed opponent pitching this year. You could almost say he had the
"eye of the tiger". When he walked up to the plate, he knew he was
going to get a hit. He had the most consistent year I have ever seen, he
played in 19 games and had multiple hits in 11 of them. Rudy tops the leader
board in most of the offensive categories and should be considered as the
best hitter in this league this year. |

The SweatSox missed the playoffs
by just 2 points, but it could’ve been so much worse had it not been for the
left arm of Martin Trepanier. Trep led
the SweatSox in all major pitching categories: IP (40), K (53), W (3), ERA
(1.23), and WHIP (1.20). It’s worth
noting in Trep’s 3 losses, the SweatSox scored a TOTAL of 4 runs against some
of the league’s best: Amelotte, Barnes, and Beauchamp. |

Greg
had another great year for the Mudd. We knew, every time Greg towed the
rubber that we were going to get a great pitching performance and that we
were going to have a chance to win. Greg was at his best when the game was on
the line. At his best in the big games and big moments, Greg is our
undisputed number 1 pitcher and was a instrumental part in getting the Mudd
to where we got this season. |

Nobody truly knows how long John
Groves has been playing baseball for, but our best guess is somewhere between
70-80 years. John was an integral part
of our ’13 dream season run, and while most suffered from a championship
hangover, Old Man Groves was swinging like he was in his prime. OMG hit .241, nearly .100 points higher
than his career average, and continued to have one of the quickest (and
biggest) gloves on the hot corner. It
wasn’t his most stellar year on the mound, but we can attribute that to
pitching in Winchester, vs Cornwall, and against the Braves (when they were
really good). Groves shows up every
game with a smile on his face, a positive attitude, and is always willing to
take on whatever role is best for the team.

Ricky
is the embodiment of this award. His kind heart, undeniable talent (Look at
his numbers this season) and relentlessly positive attitude were an integral
part in our teams success this season. Anyone who played with Ricky, or
against Ricky this year will agree that he is the most deserving individual
for this award and I will be happy to see him receive it. |

Ricky
came out and lit the NCBL on fire this year. His .324 batting average, along
with his stellar pitching turned heads around the league. He pitched 7
innings of 2 hit and 3 hit ball against the best team in the league during
the regular season. I do not think any other pitcher can claim that this
year. We were very lucky to be able to bring in such a talented player to the
Mudd and we look forward to having him around for many more years. |
