What can I say about Phil that
has not already been said? Offensively, Phil led his team in batting average
(.403), base hits (27), and total bases (31). He was also his team`s ace and
pitched the most innings (45 2/3), had the most K`s (34), and led his team in
wins (5). Defensively, Phil played every position and was also the captain,
head coach, and heart and soul of BLACK SOX. |

Matt had an exceptional year
behind the plate, catching 21 of our 24 games. He handled the pitching staff
well and threw out multiple base stealers. Also, Matt lead our team in total
bases with 32 and finished in the league top ten. As well, he was tied for
second in the league home run race with three. |

There’s a reason Brandon was
nominated for batter of the year (and a lot of other hardware), but it’s the
combination of his offence and his defence that makes him MVP-worthy. His bat
was one of the only reasons we stayed alive in the playoff hunt late in the
season, and his glove saved just as many runs as his bat created. He played
in 20 of our games, and if he had missed even a few more it’s safe to say we
wouldn’t have been in the position we were late in the season. |

The NCBL veteran, Dave
"Doc" Rivers may have a sore back this off-season from carrying the
Dukes team for much of the year. Dave was an 'everything man' for the Dukes
in 2016. Whether it was pitching as a starter, coming into games as a reliever,
playing solid defense at short stop or getting it done with the bat, Dave did
it all and did it really well. Dave mastered it all in 2016, not unlike his
mastery of google docs and reply all. |

Joel put together arguably his
best year as a Jack last year, as he took his game to another level
offensively. You'll see his name in the top 3 of many offensive categories on
the leaderboard, and if you look at our team stats, he was one of our top pitchers
this year, notching 4 wins with an impressive WHIP of 1.56. What doesn't show
up is his defensively ability that he showed numerous times throughout the
year. Certainly the top defensive 3B in the Tier, Joel also played half the
year at shortstop and did a fantastic job. Sure, Jay Murfitt put up some
ridiculously good offensive numbers, but if you look at an all-around MVP
performance, it's hard to argue against Big Joe. |

A quick look at the leaderboards
will show you that Jay dominated this year. Jay lead the league in runs
scored, hits, rbi, doubles, triples, home runs, batting average, slugging,
OPS, and total bases. That is to say that he lead the league in 10 out of 13
of the real offensive categories that the league tracks. He missed out on the
BB (6) and SB (9) leaderboard, but was second in OBP. Pretty ridiculous
really. He also plays dynamite defense in the outfield. |

`Mr. Ass`` as he is more
affectionately known as for getting frequently getting beaned in the upper
buttocks, Louis was one of the most feared hitters in all of the NCBL. Louis
was in the top-10 in almost every major offensively category (home runs, doubles,
rbi, slugging pct, on base pct, and OPS). |

Plain and simple, Brandon was
our offensive catalyst all year, as his stats show. He was top two on our
team in most offensive categories (runs, hits, walks, average, RBI, slugging,
OPS, and even stolen bases) and league-wide finished with the third best
average, second best OBP, and ninth best OPS. For what it’s worth, he was our
most consistent hitter in a season in which our offence sputtered most of the
time |

Stephane Leclair is the Dukes
Best Batter nominee for the third year running. So if you don't know that
number ten is the Dukes best hitter then you probably haven't seen the Dukes
play in the last decade. Steph once again led the way offensively and the
stats show it. The 2015 Tier 3 All Star is among the tier leaders in most
offensive categories, including RBI (2nd in tier) which says a lot because
Dukes players are fat, slow and admittedly lazy. |

The numbers don't lie, Joel was
a steady hitter all year, bringing a high OBP and solid power to the top of
our lineup each and every game. He lead the team in almost every offensive
category, including both RBI and runs, which is an impressive feat to be both
a producer of runs and to cash guys in. He also chipped in with 10 SBs to cap
off a great season. |

When you think Big Stick, you
gotta think Slick Nick! This guy has a hammer and when he’s not takin’ names
and breakin’ hearts, he’s drilling his balls all over the field. His average
is high and so is he as his rock solid stick continues to be a force in the
middle of the lineup. Not only does he clean up in the 4 spot, he drives guys
in a rapid pace and is a big key to us scoring … runs. Pickles’ is the
Rockets nominee for Batter of the Year! |

Solid and consistent are two
adjectives used to describe his pitching style. Phil pitched in 11 games,
made 8 starts, and even recorded a save. Phil owned a respectable ERA (3.37),
and picked up 5 wins. Phil was by far the most consistent pitcher on the BLACK
SOX and also worked with his entire staff as their pitching coach. |

Riley was a huge bright spot in
what was a collective down year for our pitching staff. He was a utility man
for us on the mound, starting most games, getting some long relief work, and
mixing in a few short one-inning outings. Most importantly, he didn’t lose a
game all year (not easy to do considering the way we played for most of the
season) and finished tied for third in the tier in wins. |

Seasons come and go, but one
thing that remains fairly constant on the Lumberjacks is Scott Wood's
leadership in our rotation. Year in and year out, he gets the job done on the
mound. We had a deeper pitching staff this year, and Woody battled through some
injuries, but he still lead the team in innings pitched. He's the type of
pitcher every manager dreams of - pitches well in every situation and always
wants the ball in the biggest games. |

The hard throwing lefty Nickels
Lenardon is the Rockets nominee for Pitcher of the Year. Why? Why not? And
‘cause he throws darts and usually hits his spots (that’s what she said)!
Unlike his performance in the boudoir, he strikes guys out a ton. While he
features his hard fastballs, he also can also drop his balls in the hot zones
for strikes. His consistent performance on the bump was evident all season
long! He sure knows how to satisfy … his team-mates. |

Andy ``Cincinnati`` is the
definition of a team player. After a 5-year hiatus from the NCBL to mend
various injuries, Andy worked his butt off to get ready for the 2016 basball
season. Andy had a respectable .294 batting average and played solid defensive
at first. The ``Cincinnati Treat`` was also a leader of the hyjinx and
currently drives a Lexus. |

Dave was a workhorse on the
mound leading the league in innings pitched; he also hit over .300 with a
homerun, and he plays the game with a quiet competitiveness. He's gentleman
on and off the field, but still a great ballplayer. |

One of the quietest, but also
easily one of the most competitive players on our team, Brandon missed only
four games this season (and played almost every inning of the 20 games he was
at). Opposing players may not know his name, but they probably know him from
patrolling centre field (even mixing in some time in the middle infield) and
the work he did batting in the three and four spots. Even when the team was
playing some of its worst baseball, Brandon never lost his positivity and
desire to be at the field (he showed up almost an hour early to every game),
despite playing injured for half of the season. To have a team full of
players like Brandon would be a manager’s dream. |

The Mike Robillard Awd
competitard will always hold significant meaning for Dukes players and so it
is that we've nominated Trevor Williams. T-Bills plays baseball the way it's
meant to be played, he competes hard every game on both sides of the ball. As
hard as he plays the game anive as he is, Trevor’s always level-headed and
positive with umpires, teammates and opponents alike. |

For the second year in a row,
Ros is our nominee for the Sportsmanship and Ability Award. He would arguably
be our 2nd MVP if Joel didn't run away with the nomination, as he gets the
job done in every aspect of the game - hitting, pitching, and fielding. Not
only that, he's always positive, always vocal in encouraging teammates,
always respectful to both opponents and umpires, and he leaves everything
he's got on the field. Great player, great teammate. |

For a third consecutive year,
Dotzko has gone to great lengths to put together the annual Heritage Classic
Baseball tournament. The ongoing success of this tournament is merely based
on promoting sportsmanship both on and off the field, in addition to a competitive
but entertaining weekend for all. Dotzko also takes the time and ability to
try and secure a functioning scoreboard for the Mavs home games at Heritage.
Thanks for all your hard work Jonathan. |

When you think sportsmanship and
ability, you probably think to yourself, let’s give this award to the
team-mate that demonstrates no ability to win another award. And that’s
exactly what the Rockets thought when we nominated Michael K. Bayley. The K
stands for strike-outs and Michael K.only struck out 11 batters in his 52+
IP. He strikes out more often when he’s cougar hunting in Stittsvegas!
Despite his lacklustre stats and somewhat average looks, our Mikey has been
in the NCBL for 20 years. If he plays another year, they might name Tier 5
after him! Soon to be taking his talents to co-ed softball, The Bay is
beloved by his team-mates, his opponents and even the umpires while he’s
flirting with them to gain that extra edge and/or make dinner plans. All
joking aside, if anyone deserves this award, it’s our leader Michael K.
Bayley. |

Chris is a mild mannered, soft
spoken gentleman who can play baseball with the best of them. He shows up to
almost every game, plays hard and gets along with everyone. He plays all over
the diamond, wherever we need him without a complaint. His name is also all
over the leaderboard (PA, AB, R, H, 2B, SB, TB). Great player and easy to
manage. |
