MVP
Braves - Rob Latulippe
Huge year .433 BA....29 hits, 21 RBI's, 7 doubles, .612
slugging, .506 OBA.....was the Braves offence this season.....
Brewers - Geoff Magnus
Once again our MVP as our best shortstop, best pitcher, and our clean-up
hitter. Was pitched around a lot this year as his 19 walks show.
Cardinals - Dave Barnes
Crushers - Joe Stone
One of the most talented players in the NCBL,
everything came together this year offensively and defensively. His
rocket arm allowed him to have 8 outfield assists this year including throwing
a player out at first base from right field! Going back ant forth
from leadoff man to cleanup guy, Joe could hit anywhere in the lineup...380AVG,5
2B,2 3B, 1HR, 6 SB
Gryphons - Peter Gauthier
As for how valuable he was to our team, Pete accomplished all of this
as an innings-eater, with 41.67 IP, 2nd in the Tier. He had half
of our team’s wins with 5, and did so with run support of less than four
runs per game. In fact, his only loss this year was a complete game
1-0 loss to the Brewers. Pete’s starts were all complete games, continuing
a three year-long trend – the last time he was pulled from a start (including
playoffs, but excluding once last year due to injury) was on July 27th,
2006. Also, Pete’s stats weren’t the result of starts against weaker
teams - four of his five starts were versus each of the top 4 teams in
the standings. His other start was his first career no-hitter, a
10-strikeout gem he threw against Marc Sports. Pete’s performances
and fiery competitiveness made him the almost-unanimous choice of his teammates
for Gryphons MVP.
- had a 1.34
ERA (1st in Tier);
- allowed 0.94
baserunners per inning (1st in Tier);
- had 5 wins
(2nd in Tier);
- had 32 strikeouts
(4th in Tier);
Marc Sports - Steve Spooner
Panthers - JJ Carbonette
405 Batting average 4 HR and 14 RBI's OBA 528
Ponies - Derek Mack
Heart of the defense with his stellar play at
short, Derek is also on of the Ponies best, and Clutch hitters. Always
doing what he is asked without hesitation or question.
Selects - Brennan McKay
Brennan was "Mr. Select" this season. To
start, he went 8-1 during the season (3 more wins than second place) was
second in strikeouts with 42, and pitched almost 20 more innings than anyone
else. If that wasn't enough, Brenn was one of our best hitters batting
.340 with 14 RBIs.
Stingrays - Jon Dale
Best Batter
Braves - Rob Latulippe
Huge year .433 BA....29 hits, 21 RBI's, 7 doubles, .612
slugging, .506 OBA.....was the Braves offence this season.....
Brewers - Adam Oattes
Our most consistent hitter, led the Brewers in runs, hits and doubles
and only struck out twice all year!
Cardinals - Felix Septimo
Crushers - Joe Stone
Gryphons - Casey Inglis
Despite playing six different positions this year and battling arm
and ribcage injuries, Casey was like clockwork in our cleanup hitter slot
this season. He had an 11-game hitting streak during which he batted
.515 and had a .578 OB%. And all four of his triples were exactly
in the same spot – off the fence in right CF, mere inches away from being
bombs each time. Casey’s rare combination of average, power, and
speed made him the premier offensive force in our lineup and, we think,
in the Tier.
- a .382 batting
average (1st in Tier);
- a .527 slugging
percentage (2nd in Tier);
- 4 triples (1st
in Tier) and 12 stolen bases (also 1st);
- 21 hits (3rd
in Tier).
Marc Sports - Eric Proulx
Panthers - Kevin Miller
Batting average 397 19 RBI's
Ponies - Pat Robb
Patty is probably the toughest out in the league.
A pure doubles hitter, he has the most two strike hits on the team. He
hits for average and power, with great plate discipline.
Selects - Shawn Hopewell
Consistency...this guy does it year in and year out despite being one
of the most respected hitters in the league and rarely getting much to
swing at. Shawn put up a .370 average with 14 walks.
Stingrays - Jon Dale
Best Pitcher
Braves - Daren Keating
Pitched over 1/3 of Braves games.....3-2 record with a 3.92 ERA.......
Brewers - Geoff Magnus
Again our most dominant pitcher. Went 5-2 with 1 save and 1.44 ERA.
Was un-hittable at times this season!
Cardinals - Dave Barnes
Crushers - Jason Fink
All three of Jason's wins came vs top tier competition.
He's a big game pitcher and it showed all year....3-0 2.45 era
Gryphons - Peter Gauthier
(see notes in MVP nominees)
- had a 1.34
ERA (1st in Tier);
- allowed 0.94
baserunners per inning (1st in Tier);
- had 5 wins
(2nd in Tier);
- had 32 strikeouts
(4th in Tier);
Marc Sports - Steve Spooner
Panthers - Marc Charbonneau
5 regular season wins 0 loses 0.78 ERA + 2 playoff
wins
Ponies - Jed Vallier
Jed's second year full time with the Ponies has
seen a drastic improvement in his pitching. He has logged the most innings,
and is our go to guy on the bump.
Selects - Brennan McKay
Brennan was "Mr. Select" this season. To start, he went 8-1 during
the season (3 more wins than second place) was second in strikeouts with
42, and pitched almost 20 more innings than anyone else.
Stingrays - Mike Tokessy
Best Rookie
Braves - Dan Greene
solid fielder, great arm, 12 BB's and 3 SB's.....
Brewers - No nominee
Cardinals - Josh Shandaum
Crushers - No nominee
Gryphons - Kevin Brunet
As a rookie, Kevin overcame much good-natured ribbing from his teammates
to perform very well this year as a pitcher, hitter, and defensively as
well. As a pitcher, Kevin logged 28 innings with a 3.25 ERA (8th
in Tier) and allowing only 1.43 baserunners per inning (5th in Tier).
While as a hitter, he hit for a .268 average, with a solid .406 OB% to
boot, striking out only 5 times all year while walking 13 and adding 7
stolen bases and 2 doubles. Defensively, Kevin provided stellar defence
at no less than five positions, spending most of his time at SS and 3B,
while filling in admirably at C during our #1 catcher’s absences.
He also added to his rookie resume by filling in for injured ace Peter
Gauthier with a pair of solid starts on the mound in the postseason, most
notably clinching the quarter-finals with a gutsy 5+ inning performance
against the Crushers. Kevin was his teammates’ almost-unanimous choice
for best rookie.
Marc Sports - Charles-Andre Pilon
Ponies - Ryan Kerstens
Very solid in the field, and a very tough out
with surprising pop. He will be vying for the MVP in the upcoming years
no doubt.
Selects - Eric Prah
Was solid in his rookie campaign, showing himself to be one of the
best catchers in the league...throwing out more players than Michelle on
a Thursday night at the SportsPlex. Eric got it done at the plate
as well, batting .295 with 12 walks
Stingrays - Karl Kofmel
Sportsmanship/Ability
Braves - Ryan McLaughlan
1-1 4.72 ERA.....comeback in the NCBL this year.....played a
role and contributed valuable innings as a pitcher......
Brewers - Adam Oattes
Our best hitter, and one of our top pitchers and all around good guy!!
Cardinals - Eric Savoie
Crushers - Jeff Gordon
A little bit of an off year to his standards
but Jeff is an all around great guy and a hell of a ball player.
He has great range in the outfield and had his share of outfield assists
this year. .279 AVG, .413 ONB, 11 RBI
Gryphons - Spencer Buwalda
As a second-year Gryphon, Spencer assumed a leadership role this season
from the get-go, when our winter workouts began in January. He worked
overtime in the offseason in the hopes of improving his 1B defence and
exceeded all expectations, committing only one error this season and showing
great improvement in all aspects of the position. His .371 OB%, 12
ribbies and 3 doubles complemented his excellent defence. Spencer
is always in a good mood – whether you’re a teammate, an opponent, or an
umpire, you’ll never find him without a smile and a kind word. His
contagious encouragement of teammates went far beyond the call of duty,
with e-mails and phone calls alike between games, while taking our rookies
under his wing and making them feel welcome. A consummate team player,
Spencer actually made the trip from Ottawa to Kingston knowing it was his
turn to sit, and was a vocal supporter of his teammates from the bench
the entire game. Finally, always innovative, Spencer has spearheaded
the movement for a helper monkey, but has yet to raise the money necessary
to the purchase and training of said monkey. Donations, and your
vote, would be much appreciated. Spencer was Gryphon management’s
choice for this year’s Gryphon Award, which is our team’s version of the
sportsmanship/ability award.
Marc Sports - Claude Roussel
Ponies - Geoff Fearon
With the best average on the team, Geoff has
been a pleasant surprise for us. He is also a rookie that takes instruction
well, always pleasant to be around while
Selects - Casey Wood
Mr . Automatic, Casey does it all: catches, plays 3rd, wins 3 games
in the playoffs, and bats .341 with 17 RBIs during the regular season.
On top of all that...he's a really good person too...
Stingrays - Dan Osterer
