MVP
Coyotes - Jonny Trafford
.425 BA, 6 2b, 1 3b, 4 Hr, 23 Rbi, 19 Runs Jonny was the team's
best offensive player in about half of our games. He also had 5 wins
and pitched 54 innings with a 3.50 ERA.
Dukes - Steve Rumleskie
Team leader in Innings pitched (50), strikeouts (38), and wins (4).
Steve earned the save in the last regular-season game to get the Dukes
into the playoffs. Steve threw a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win
over the Knights in the playoffs. Steve was no slouch at the plate either,
posting a .429 batting average with a team-high six doubles.
Fireballers - Thomas Coyne
Thomas Hit .488, slugging .771, 13 runs and lead the league with 7
doubles. Also, he had the only home run on the team. Thomas played 2nd
base and CF with a very high fielding percentage. Even though his coaching
and pitching was sub-par, he gave the Fireballers the best chance to win
while hitting a 2 out, 2 RBI double in the top of the seventh. (we lost
in the bottom).
Hurricanes - Rafael Castillo
Rafael was consistently our best player all year. He hit a solid
.333, with a .556 slugging %, including 4 doubles and 2 home runs.
He also stole 6 bases, with 12 runs scored and 14 rbi. As impressive
as his hitting stats are, it was on defence that Rafael really shined.
He played short stop for us and made some plays this year that few if any
in tier IV could make. He has an unbelievable arm and great range.
Knights - Murray Campbell
Rockets - Tommy "T-Bone" Toll
Move over Josh Hamilton, the Real Deal Tom Toll, comeback player of
the year is our nominee this year as the Rockets 2008 MVP. After some nasty
knee problems the last couple of years that have slowed him down, he was
able to beat the odds and come back this season and put up numbers that
would stop Roseanne Barr in her tracks at a buffet in Vegas. With Usain
Bolt speed on the base paths and a glove out in centerfield that has Kirby
and Dirt Devil battling out to smear their sponsorship on his jersey, he
led our team in virtually all offensive categories that sparked us to a
wonderful 12-6 record. As our token cheerleader, his nursery rhymes and
laughable comments about everyone's mom, keeps the team loose and ready
to play hard. He expects nothing but perfection from himself and always
gives it his best. Love him or hate 'em (which we're sure everybody loves
him), he is an elite player in our Tier 4 Recreational League. This guy
is gorgeous! 18/49, .367 AVG, .467 ONB%, 21 Runs Scored, 10 BBs, 19 SBs...
Sharks - Jeff Dixon
Great Bat, and best Shortstop in the league - bar none
Best Batter
Coyotes - Brody Mitchell
.425 BA, 6 2b, 3 Hr, 11 Rbi, 11 Runs
Dukes - Hugh Cairns
Veteran catcher Hugh Cairns (.370 and team-leading 18 RBI and two homers)
got our offensive award. Hugh recorded a team-high six RBI game. Struck
out only once in 58 plate appearances. Hugh batted cleanup on a consistent
basis.
Fireballers - Eric Helander
Eric was consistently our best hitter all year. It seemed he got a
hit every second at bat (.528 AVG). He also led our team with 9 RBI's and
a .564 OBP. A great contact hitter, Eric will be nominated for best hitter
for years to come.
Hurricanes - Rafael Castillo
Rafael was consistently our best player all year. He hit a solid
.333, with a .556 slugging %, including 4 doubles and 2 home runs.
He also stole 6 bases, with 12 runs scored and 14 rbi.
Knights - Wes Cory
Rockets - Andrew "Belly" Belmore
Bing, Bang, Boom! That's the sweet sound of the ball after it's smashed
off Belly's bat! If he didn't already have a cool nickname like Belly,
we'd call him Clutch! The purest hitter on the team, Belly has found a
home in the heart of the Rockets lineup and taken up shop! This number
3 hitter is in the top 3 of most offensive categories to lead the Rockets
in becoming one of the highest scoring squads in Tier 4. His rock solid
numbers are as follows: 16/41, .390 AVG, .463 SLUG%, . 490 ONB%, 16 RBIs,
13 Runs Scored. There's more and more w/ Belmore, but we don't want to
bore! When voting for the Best Batter award, drop it like it's hot and
vote for Belly...
Sharks - Allen Christopherson
Best Pitcher
Coyotes - Jonny Trafford
5-4 W-L, 54 IP, 30 K, 3.50 Era
Dukes - Steve Rumleskie
Team leader in Innings pitched (50), strikeouts (38), and wins (4).
Steve earned the save in the last regular-season game to get the Dukes
into the playoffs. Steve threw a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win
over the Knights in the playoffs. A durable pitcher with an ERA of 3.50
Fireballers - Eric Boisvert
Coming from Tier 1 and playing with no run support or defense, Eric
still racked up an unbelievable 49 K's in 26 innings of work. He kept us
in every game he pitched in and he deserved to be 5-0 rather than 0-3.
Hurricanes - Brad Richardson
Brad was our top pitcher again this year. He had another great
season pitching 50 1/3 innings, while striking out 47 batters this year.
He has an impressive 2.64 ERA and the opposition is hitting a paltry .190
against him. We knew we always had a chance to win with Brad on the
mound.
Knights - Robin Houston
Rockets - Mike "Certified Coach" Bayley
Here's a shocker: Tier 4 Legend Mike Bayley is the Rockets nominee
for Best Pitcher for the 9th straight year! This guy's got more junk in
his trunk than bigbooty.com! His trunk features a filthy forkball that
as Lionel Ritchie once sang in the 80s smash hit is Dancing on the Ceiling!
With a pregame meal that consists of McDonalds cheeseburgers and a couple
of cans of coke, he continues to defy the odds, stay alive and pitch inning
after inning. And unlike his idol (Roger Clemens), he and his 140 lb frame
are doing it all without the juice! He possesses a 5-3 record (including
two 8 inning losses), a whopping 59 IP, 38 Ks, 4.87 ERA, 1.68 BB+H/IP and
an unconscious 6 walks! Game in, game out, Mike gives us a chance to win
and takes the mound whenever the team needs him. When handing out the hardware
for Best Pitcher, think Michael K. Bayley. Besides, he needs a cool trophy
to add to his even cooler bowling trophy collection...
Sharks - Chris Martin
