Braves 7 Cardinals 3

It looked like once again our game of the week would be rained out, but the rain held off and the Braves and Cardinals hooked for a pretty good game. Both teams came into the game trying to break losing streaks, Braves at 2 games, and the Cardinals had lost the previous 4.

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick lead in the first, when Tom Blair hit a double, stole third, then was knocked in by Rick Dow. Then Adam Salter doubled in Dow off of Braves starter Todd Burke.  The Braves got out of the inning when Randy Stockdale picked off Salter off of third. This proved costly, as the Cardinals only reached third base one more time the rest of the game. Cardinals starter, Salter got through the first easily, but then gave up one run in the second when Gord Scharf hit an RBI double to score Todd Beaupre who had also hit a double. Marc Landry made a nice catch to end the inning on a looping liner by Jonas Malcolm in right field which would have surely scored a run.

The Cardinals then capitalized on a Brave error in the third, getting an RBI single from Trevor Bowering, but they ran themselves out of another inning, when he got caught at second trying to stretch the hit into a double. The Braves then took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, with a 2 out, 2 RBI single up the middle by Beaupre. Then Beaupre was cashed in by a Cardinal error. From this point on the Cardinals managed just one hit, and one walk for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, the Braves got two in the 4th, with a solo homer by Alex Anderson, to greet Dave Barnes, who had came in to pitch. Then Brian Samuel got an RBI single after a Cardinal error.  The Braves added one more on a Samuel RBI double in the 6th, and Todd Burke finished the complete game with 2 K's in the 7th.

Player of the Game: Brian Samuel, Braves, 2/3, 1 double, 2 RBI's, 1 stolen base, 1 run scored.
