Nepean Brewers at  Kanata Selects
Kinsmen

Game #3

boxscore

Once again the Brewers and Selects played a 4-3 game, the difference was how they got to that score in yet another wild
playoff game between these two teams. The 2 starting pitchers took control right from the outset, Mike Watters for Kanata,
and Jason Krottner for the Brewers.

Through 4 innings, the Brewers mustered only 1 hit and 1 walk and obviously no runs off of Watters. Meanwhile, Kanata was
only able to get 4 hits, 1 walk, and one on-by-error, and also no runs off of Krottner. So going into the 5th inning, the game
was deadlocked at zero's. The excitement then began when Frank Macera led off the 5th with a double to the right field gap.
After getting the next two batters, Watters looked to get out of the jam, but Hank Beelen then hit a 2 strike, 2 out double over
the right fielder and scoring Macera to open the scoring. In the bottom of the inning, Krottner struck out the first two batters,
but then gave up consecutive singles to Jeff Rawson and Hugh Kellam. Watters then hit a line drive single to right field to tie the
game, and then also score Kellam when the ball got away from the right fielder.

Kanata held the momentum going into the 6th but the Brewers did not quit and looked to strike back. Matt Beelen led off with
a walk, and then Krottner hit an infield single to put runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. After a Dave Rivers sac bunt,
Keith Blouin hit an RBI ground out up the middle to tie the game.  Then Macera stepped up to the plate and hit the first pitch
into center field for an RBI single and to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Kanata was able to get a
runner to second base, and Shawn Hopewell crushed one to right field, but Mark Keenan was able to run it down and catch it
for the 3rd out.

After going 3 up 3 down in the top of the 7th, the Brewers looked to win the game and series. After getting the first 2 batters,
Krottner was one out away from getting the win. Kellam kept the game going by hitting a 2 strike single to right field. Then
Watters walked to put the tying run on second base. Mark Majkowski then hit an infield chopper to second base that Jon
Zywicki had to catch and throw to first base on the run, his throw got away and went to the fence to allow Kellam to score the
tying run. Krottner re-grouped and was able to get the next batter to pop up to send the game into extra innings.

The Brewers tried to threaten in the 8th when Krottner singled and then Blouin reached by error, but Krottner got thrown out
at 3rd base on a risky attempt to end the inning. In the bottom of the frame, TJ Carlson hit a one out bloop to left field and thus
signalling the end of Krottner's night as Serge Beaulieu came in to pitch. After walking Shawn Hopewell and throwing a wild
pitch, Kanata had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Dan Rollin then hit a fly ball to short left field with the Brewers infield
and outfield playing in, Krottner caught the ball, but his thrown was a little too strong and pinch runner Craig Wigglesworth was
able to cross the plate with that decisive fourth run, to end the game and series.

Players of the Game : Mike Watters and Jason Krottner.
