In the season opener for both teams, the Brewers put on a defensive clinic with a number of stellar plays in the field while also putting together an effective offensive attack.  Keith Blouin set the tone for the game in the top of the first by making a diving play to rob Roch Seguin of a single. Then in the bottom of the frame the Brewers jumped out to a quick lead off of Red Sox starter Chris Schmidt. Blouin hit a 2-out RBI single and then Shawn Painter hit another 2 RBI single later in the inning to make it 3-0.

Brewer starter Mike Gingerich sailed through the first 7 batters without allowing a runner. The Red Sox finally struck in the 3rd getting an unearned run. In the bottom of the inning the Brewers tacked on 2 more runs after Geoff Magnus led off with a rope to deep centre field for a double and then Jason Krottner singled him in. Frank Macera singled in a run as well to make it 5-1 after 3 complete innings.

Gingerich continued to cruise with the help of his defence through 6 innings without giving up another run. Meanwhile the Brewers scored 3 more runs off reliever Jamie Gloyn as Blouin had an RBI single and Sean Lecuyer had a 2 RBI double.

The Red Sox were able to post a run in the 7th off of Painter with an RBI ground out by Steve MonPremier, but that was all as the game ended 8-2 for the Brewers.
