In possibly the greatest NCBL game ever played on May 29th, the Panthers and Brewers hooked up in a classic battle between 2 long time rivals. Geoff Magnus and Jason Ulmer set the tone with great starts. The Panthers struck first with a John Carbonette solo home run to right-center in the 2nd. Through the first 4 innings, Magnus would only give up 2 other hits. Meanwhile, Ulmer was busy shutting down the Brewers who could only get 1 runner to 3rd in the first 4 innings. The Brewers looked to score in the 5th but stranded 2 base runners. The Panthers also threatened in the 5th but also stranded 2 base runners. In the 6th, after Ulmer was pulled in favour of Joel Richard after walking Jason Krottner, Krottner was promptly thrown out stealing. Then after a hit by pitch, Joe Beelen advanced to 3rd on a botched pick off attempt. Tony Carbonetti then hit a ground ball to 3rd base, and Josh Villaneuve was able to hang on to the ball and the lead, in a collision at the plate. Therefore going into the 7th, the Panthers still hung on to a 1-0 lead. Rookie Craig Chaput led off the inning with a double to deep center. After a sac bunt advanced the runner to 3rd, Scott Tunis tied the game with a sac fly to left field. Magnus then was able to strand 2 runners on base in the bottom of the 7th after a 2 out double by Villaneuve.
After the quickness of the first 7 innings, there was time for extra innings. In the 8th, the Brewers took advantage of 4 walks and a 2 out, 2 RBI single by Mike Gingerich off of reliever Marc Charbonneau. Adam Oattes then came in to notch his first save of the season with a 3 up, 3 down 8th.
